Something

To me, there is no "spiritual side" to the program of AA;
the entire program is spiritual.
In my view, some of the evidences of a spiritual awakening are:
maturity; an end to habitual hatred;
the ability to love and to be loved in return;
the ability to believe, even without understanding,
that Something lets the sun rise in the morning and set at night,
makes the leaves come out in the spring and drop off in the fall,
and gives the birds song.
Why not let this Something be God?

I'm Jim, an alcoholic.

The day I hit bottom started out in church. Actually, it started out hung over and sick. But once I pulled it together I was in church. I was desperate, and thought all was lost and it nearly was, but then it stopped. I cried for 6 weeks, every day, sometimes multiple times . and then I realized something. I realized what I had been looking for that final horrible day in church; a sense that I was a part of the universe . not the Whole universe . but a part of something bigger than myself. That was my awakening. I believe there is a spirit of the universe, one I don't and can't understand, and that there is a flow, and that my job is to get with the flow. When I fight it, problems come. When I seek to understand it, and be comforted by it, I am well and the compulsion to drink is far away. It has been a blessing to me. Even though I have had my rough moments, when I meditate and try to find the flow, I find the path back. And I am well once more. That is my spiritual awakening. Thanks for listening.
