Prayer

We treasure our "Serenity Prayer"
because it brings a new light to us
that can dissipate our oldtime and nearly fatal habit
of fooling ourselves.

Hi, I'm Jason, an alcoholic.

It's funny to me, how much things can change, when nothing really changes at all. I haven't been doing super great lately, so I decided to go back to the basics of AA for the last two days. I didn't drink, but I was isolating, mad at myself, and I know that's bad for me. I can remember back when I first heard the Serenity Prayer. I had never heard it before, so I couldn't recite it at meetings, because I didn't know it! It took me 25 years to say a prayer that wasn't a "911! Please help me get out of jail or not get pulled over" one, or "don't let me die during detox." And prayer works. I had no idea why at first, but now I just do it and don't question it. I think the greatest thing I ever got, was AA showing me a Higher Power. I'd suggest if you were thinking about taking a drink, try saying the Serenity Prayer first. Getting down on my knees and saying it, when I wanted a drink but yet didn't, was enough to stop me from drinking in the past. I guess maybe some of you guys know what you're talking about, after all! The good thing about prayer and my Higher Power for me, is even when I stray, I always am welcomed back. I love all you guys, and for the new person, if you're wondering if you're an alcoholic, or have a drinking problem, then please stick around and talk to us, you will find out if you are.
