'Irkitis'

A friend told me that alcoholism in a nutshell
is simply "acute irkitis."
He wouldn't explain himself,
but told me to find out for myself what he meant.
I gave it some thought as I saw the relationship between
irks and resentments.
To me the former are the sparks that grow into the latter --
if allowed to smolder.
An irk, like a spark on one's sleeve, can be quickly brushed off
and no harm done.
However if allowed to remain it burns in, grows, does its harm,
and leaves its mark. Often in a slip.
I gave this "irkitis" slant much thought.
More and more it made sense.
When one sees how and why irks come,
it's hard to take them too seriously.
I'm grateful for discovering what my friend meant by irkitis. . .
and I hope you'll gain from it too.

Thought to Ponder....

Resentment is like taking poison
and waiting for the other person to die.
