Spiritual Growth

As we grow spiritually,
we find that our old attitudes toward our instincts
need to undergo drastic revisions. . .
If we place instincts first,
we have got the cart before the horse;
we shall be pulled backward into disillusionment.
But when we are willing to place spiritual growth first --
then and only then do we have a real chance.

Hi everyone! I'm Jen, a sober alcoholic.

I'm actually only about 17 years old in a 40-year-old body. Personal growth for me means that every harebrained idea that comes into my head doesn't have to be acted upon. Sometimes that moment's hesitation is just enough time to see the error of my ways. The filter between my mouth and brain has gotten thicker. The moment it takes to ball up a fist in anger is enough time to prevent me from going to jail for assault. The distance between my last drink and me has gotten big enough that the gifts of this program far outweigh the pleasure and oblivion of a drink. Personal growth for me means that I think things through. Even if I still sometimes do what I want, at least I am not entirely surprised when I get burned by it. I know now that my will is not always God's will for me, and I accept that my will is not always the best way to go. Today, I see that my personal growth is in direct proportion to my spiritual growth. If I maintain my spiritual condition there are basically no limits to what I can do or where I can go. Thanks for letting me play here!
