Faith

People of faith have a logical idea
of what life is all about. Actually,
we used to have no reasonable conception whatever.
We used to amuse ourselves by cynically
dissecting spiritual beliefs and practices
when we might have observed
that many spiritually-minded persons
of all races, colors, and creeds were demonstrating
a degree of stability, happiness and usefulness
which we should have sought ourselves.

I'm Barbara F., an alcoholic.

I couldn't make my program work without faith in my Higher Power. Faith for me is trust that things will work out OK with my participation, not my interference. I get into trouble when I interfere; when I follow the path that is being laid out for me things go much better. I have also learned in this program that when my faith is lacking, I get into trouble. That is when I interfere with the flow of my day, of my life. When I woke up this morning, I got onto the computer as usual. I had several things to do, but wanted to get into my computer playtime. I rushed through the first thing (which was some Fourth Step work), and was on the next, when I heard glass break in the other room. I looked around and found a vase that had tipped over and crashed that I had to clean up. What about all the stuff I had to do! When I am stopped like that, I have learned that my Higher Power wants me to HALT, and pay some attention to what I am doing. That is how my faith expresses itself to me today. And I am so very grateful for those broken flower vases. In the old days, there wouldn't have been any flowers at all!
