Juggernaut

Each of us has had his own near-fatal encounter
with the juggernaut of self-will,
and has suffered enough under its weight
to be willing to look for something better.
So it is by circumstances rather than by any virtue
that we have been driven to AA, have admitted defeat,
have acquired the rudiments of faith,
and now want to make a decision
to turn our will and our lives over to a Higher Power.

Hi everyone! I am Bill, an alcoholic.

I had some deeply ingrained resentments which included putting myself in a position to end up spending more than twelve years of my young life in prisons, complicated by having been a baby-faced professional fighter in the company of world champions. While in training, I continued slugging down the drinks. Yet now I am in the program of AA, sober for the past six years, one moment at a time. My sponsor quoted from The Big Book, page 98, "Burn the idea into the consciousness of every man that he can get well regardless of anyone. The only condition is that he trust in God and clean house." And this is precisely what I did, and continue to do every day of my life. In sincerely working the Steps, I am experiencing the most wonderful spiritual awakening, now with opened eyes and an opened heart, exercising loving kindness with every fiber of my being.
