Our admissions of personal powerlessness
finally turn out to be firm bedrock
upon which happy and purposeful lives may be built.
We know that little good can come
to any alcoholic who joins AA unless he has first accepted
his devastating weakness and all its consequences.
Until he humbles himself, his sobriety -- if any --
will be precarious.
Of real happiness he will find none at all.
Proved beyond doubt by an immense experience,
this is one of the facts of AA life.
Powerless and grateful makes you powerFUL and great.
S W A T = Surrender, Willingness, Acceptance, Trust.
My name is Jeremy, an alcoholic, and powerless over much more than alcohol.
Understanding and admitting that powerlessness is a main ingredient for my serenity. In the past, I always tried to wrest satisfaction from things that demand payment. I lost physical freedom. I had to combine acceptance of things as they are along with that admission of powerlessness to receive serenity. The action of working the Steps has placed me in an optimal state to receive serenity. It took action for me. Doing something other than what I used to do ... WORKING THE STEPS.
