Honesty

I will never be totally honest --
that would make me perfect,
and none of us can claim to be perfect.
Only God is.
If I work on it every day,
it will be easier to be honest with myself.

My name is Bob, and I'm an alcoholic.

We cannot forget that alcoholism is cunning and insidious, and wants us always to believe the lie for the truth, and the truth for the lie. We can go through many days with a deep, deep affection for AA, for what AA has done for our lives, and the lives of our loved ones. Then all at once, when we least expect it ... Kaboom! ... the bottom seems to drop out. All of a sudden, we feel less than. All of a sudden, we feel out of sorts. But remember this, my friend: it is a lie. There is one thing else that is so very important. We all will have times when we are left alone with many negative thoughts and many negative ideas, and at times they do not seem to go away. It is then that we have to dig deep and listen to our hearts. For in the final moment, our hearts will not lie to us. Our hearts send us to find our Higher Power ... to the God of our understanding. Then, and only then, can we again find peace. And we do find peace. So never fear, when we feel at our worst, for the light at the end of the tunnel is very near.
