When I was a child, it took me a long time
to tie my shoelaces,
but by doing what I was taught, over and over again,
it became automatic.
A few years in AA won't replace a few decades of bad habits
without conscious effort on my part.
But my growth doesn't have to be drudgery
or something I go around preaching about.
By taking a little time each day
for an inventory of where I am, I'm pretty sure
that good healthy habits will steadily replace
a lot of my old harmful ones.
I can't start doing what's right
until I stop doing what's wrong.
