Prayer

In AA we have found that the actual good results of prayer
are beyond question.
They are matters of knowledge and experience.
All those who have persisted have found strength
not ordinarily their own.
They have found wisdom beyond their usual capacity.
And they have increasingly found a peace of mind
which can stand firm in the face of difficult circumstances.

I'm Pamela S, an alcoholic.

All I ever have to be is me, and the only place I ever have to be me is in the moment I am in. All results belong to God. My responsibilities are small and specific. A huge part of my program is minding my own business. Today, I am learning more (one minute at a time) of: Acceptance, Faith, Surrender, Trust, Honesty, Courage, Willingness, Humility, Forgiveness, Freedom, Perseverance, Patience, Charity, Love -- some of the beautiful principles of our program which have allowed me, for the first time, to develop character. So many things my mother tried to teach me and I somehow missed. Ears closed, feelings hurt, defensive walls up, denial working hard -- I was the little girl who never grew up. The most important action for this alcoholic today is communication with the God of my understanding. I pray before, I pray during, and I pray after my choices. The more I surrender to the God of my understanding -- the more right my choices become. I'm not there yet, of course, and yet I do continue to make progress. It's a beautiful journey, not a destination! I love recovery! Thank God for AA!
