AA Thought for the Day

Together

Dependence upon an AA group
or upon a Higher Power hasn't produced any baleful results.
When World War II broke out,
this spiritual principle had its first major test.
AA's entered the services and were scattered
all over the world.
Would they be able to take the discipline,
stand up under fire, and endure the monotony
and misery of war?
Would the kind of dependence they had learned in AA
carry them through? Well, it did.

My name is Heather and I am an alcoholic.

I just wanted to say that I am grateful for all those who contribute to the AAOnline messages as well as those who make it happen every day. Right now, I am deployed in Iraq. We have managed to put a home group of three people together and we manage to meet once a week. It is amazing how God works, when somehow even out here we can find each other for strength and support. In the few short months before we got the meeting started, I struggled. The struggle was not about the alcohol but it most certainly was about the "ism." I found that many of my old behaviors and defects were rearing their heads more often than they did at home. This just serves to show me that the alcohol itself was but a symptom of the disease.

Thank you all again for continuing to be part of the AA family as well as a very important part of my recovery.
