Even the newest of newcomers finds undreamed rewards
as he tries to help his brother alcoholic,
the one who is even blinder than he.
This is indeed the kind of giving
that actually demands nothing. . .
Then he discovers
that by the divine paradox of this kind of giving
he has found his own reward.
That light at the end of the tunnel may be you.
S P O N S O R = Sober Person Offering Newcomers Suggestions On Recovery.
Ruth here, an alcoholic, and happy to be sober any and all days and nights.
I was, and still am at times, a hardheaded woman. It has its good points as well as bad. Sticking to something is good, but I never would have gotten "IT" by having anything shoved down my throat. My first sponsor, who sponsored me for seventeen years, showed me the way ... not talked me to the way, but rather led me by her example. She talked the talk, and more importantly, walked the walk. That is what convinced me ... her doing what she asked me to do. Nothing like a good example. Talk is cheap, but living the Steps convinced me I could do it too and receive peace and serenity in the process. Is my life wonderful all the time? Heck no! What changed was inside, and how I looked at things. Or rather how I acted ... not reacted, as I did before. It's made all the difference. I think I will try it another day!
Thanks.
