One Day at a Time

Most people feel more secure on the twenty-four-hour basis
than they do in the resolution that they will never drink again.
Most of them have broken too many resolutions.
It's really a matter of personal choice;
every AA has the privilege
of interpreting the program as he likes.

Thought to Ponder....

Every day is a gift.
That is why we call it the present.

Hi my name is Doletha, and I'm a grateful recovering alcoholic.

I was just about to turn the computer off when I noticed I had received my AA Thought for the Day. Gratitude! I am grateful for so many things today. First, I just celebrated one complete year of sobriety. Please don't misunderstand me. By no means is this a piece of cake, and I have not had the easiest time. There have been many, many roadblocks which would have caused me to stumble if it were not for my sponsor, running buddy, and support network. I have learned through my Higher Power, through this wonderful Fellowship, and through continuously having an open mind, that anything I have to go through I can get through sober. I have learned that picking up that first drink will make my problems have puppies and although relapse might occur, it is not a requirement of this program. I truly understand that it's the first drink that gets me drunk. One is too many and a thousand is not enough. Today, I will make a meeting, and you know what? I'll do the same on Saturday and the day after that and so on and so on. This is truly a day at a time program and I know that although I may be trying to jump on a pink cloud right now, I would not even know about a pink cloud without this Fellowship.

Thank you all for helping me to stay sober one day at a time and thanks for letting me share.
