Perfection

Many of us exclaimed,
"What an order! I can't go through with it."
Do not be discouraged.
No one among us has been able to maintain
anything like perfect adherence to these principles.
We are not saints.
The point is, that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines.
The principles we have set down are guides to progress.
We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection.

Hi I'm Carolyn and I'm an alcoholic.

I remember when I was younger and I took piano lessons ... if I missed a note, I would want to stop and start the whole song over no matter how far along in the song I was. I would kind of think the whole effort was wasted just from one missed note but the teacher would say to keep playing, and keep going, even if there was a missed note. This is the way I looked at life too. If one thing was wrong everything was wrong. So I was bogged up in perfectionism really, and would just want to trash it all, and that was BIG fear of failure. Progress, not perfection, is such a good saying for me to remember. There probably will be some mistakes here and there, in fact, there WILL be mistakes. But that doesn't mean to just give up and trash all the things we've learned, but to keep moving forward and take mistakes as just little setbacks. We learn from them. The best growth comes through them. Keep moving ahead.

Thanks for letting me share.
