Still more wonderful is the feeling
that we do not have to be specially distinguished
among our fellows in order to be useful
and profoundly happy.
Not many of us can be leaders of prominence,
nor do we wish to be...
True ambition is the deep desire to live usefully
and walk humbly under the grace of God.

If I cannot be grateful for what I have,
what makes me think I would be happy with more?
B E S T = Been Enjoying Sobriety Today
I'm Leon, an alcoholic.
Sometimes I forget how bad things were when I was out there. By comparison, today's problems are usually what my old sponsor called "quality problems." My gardener is working out in the yard right now. He just told me he has four months clean and sober. That would have never happened in the past. He might have gotten sober, but I certainly wouldn't have cared. I know that today I am blessed by the God I found here, and the ability to work these principles in all my affairs. When I apply the program to my problems I usually see them in perspective. Actually, they're very insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Today, I prefer to try to find the positive in everything I can. When I see the good I can be comfortable, when I dwell on the negative, I am negative. Today I prefer to be up. I wish I could do it all the time, but I am getting better. I don't want to be a Pollyanna, but In reality there are almost always two sides to everything. When I can find the positive side I can be more comfortable. This is a selfish program they tell me, and I guess that is a selfish attitude. I like it anyway. It usually works for me!
