Humility

Perpetual quietness of heart.
It is to have no trouble.
It is never to be fretted or vexed, irritable or sore;
to wonder at nothing that is done to me,
to feel nothing done against me.
It is to be at rest when nobody praises me,
and when I am blamed or despised,
it is to have a blessed home in myself
where I can go in and shut the door
and kneel to my Father in secret and be at peace,
as in a deep sea of calmness,
when all around is seeming trouble.

Hi everyone. My name is Pam, and I am an alcoholic.

Traveling this summer in the northern part of Vermont, far from my AA home group, I decided I really needed a meeting. I found a listing of all the meetings in the area, and decided to go to a Sunday morning Step 3 and 11 meeting. When I drove up to the meeting place, which was in a little white New England house, what a spiritual surprise to see a sign that said, "The birthplace and boyhood home of Dr. Bob."

The whole time I sat through this meeting I felt a deep gratitude for the founders of AA and all the people of the past who have helped to keep me sober. Through them, the message of hope is still alive and helping so many alcoholics. Thank you Dr. Bob!
