I try to hold fast to the truth
that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits.
When brimming with gratitude,
one's heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love,
the finest emotion we can ever know.

I am learning what a heart full of gratitude feels like.
B E S T = Been Enjoying Sobriety Today?
Hi, I'm Glenda, an alcoholic, and I'm filled with gratitude!
When I was drinking I was promiscuous. In fact, that's the reason I changed from being a daily drunk to a periodic drunk. I got married, and my husband was very jealous. I knew nothing of AA or the first drink, or any of that, but I did know that if I picked up a drink I'd jump into bed with somebody. My husband was a truck driver, so I wouldn't allow myself to pick up that first drink unless he was home, since I knew if I did what I would do, and he'd shoot me.
When my daughter was born, I was two years sober. While still in the hospital, the nurse came into the room and found me crying. She wanted to know if I was in pain, but I said no, I was happy. To tell the truth, I was crying because I was overwhelmed with gratitude to think that with my history, God would entrust a little girl to me. Now, I've been able to witness the birth of all three of my grandchildren. I owe it all to AA and God.
I have a wonderful relationship with my daughter. We are very close ... something I have never had with my own mother. I owe that to God and AA too. Without you people and my Higher Power, none of this would have ever happened. Even if she had been born, she certainly wouldn't have wanted her drunk mama anywhere around when her own babies were born. When she first moved out of state, she'd schedule her appointments around our visits because she trusted no one but me and my husband to baby-sit. I am so grateful I found the miracle of sobriety.
Thanks to God and AA, life is wonderful! If I do have a problem, I know "If God brings me to it, He'll bring me through it." I encourage newcomers to, "Don't leave before the miracle happens." Life can be better than you ever can imagine if you just stick around, work the Steps, don't drink, and do the next right thing. - Glenda
