Progress

Many of us exclaimed,
"What an order! I can't go through with it!"
Do not be discouraged.
No one among us has been able to maintain anything
like perfect adherence to these principles.
We are not saints.
The point is, that we are willing to grow
along spiritual lines.
The principles we have set down are guides to progress.
We claim spiritual progress rather than
spiritual perfection.

Hi KD here, alcoholic.

Progress rather than perfection, is a beautiful gift to us as we work this spiritual program into our lives, weaving the principles of each Step into our souls. Learning how to approach each challenge with the Steps that help us, and always knowing "more will be revealed." It works that way. I remember that I often wasn't ready to see the impact of each of life's challenges and am grateful it came in time and maturity. When I got sober, I was full of fear, and my past had a great hold on me ... the things I had done, the things that hurt me by others ... and I learned that it was not about forgetting. It was about learning and letting go of the hold it had on me. Freedom from the bondage of reacting in fear and pain. Of needing alcohol to cope. God bless us and happy holidays to us as we, by being here, have the courage to change the things we can.
