When we saw others solve their problems
by a simple reliance upon the Spirit of the Universe,
we had to stop doubting the power of God.
Our ideas did not work. But the God idea did.

K I S S = Keeping It Simple, Spiritually.
My name is Joanna, and I'm an exceedingly grateful alcoholic today. It's my 26th AA anniversary, as well as my 74th birthday. The very fact that I have survived the journey thus far is cause enough for rejoicing, but we all know sobriety is so much more than just survival ... it's a joyful journey of discovery. A fearless adventure into the unknown. I have a Guide I call my Higher Power. So long as I let Him lead the way, I have no reason to fear. Abundant blessings have been heaped upon me simply by not picking up a drink one day at a time. It's so simple, it's complicated! And how I dearly love to complicate things still. And the more I complicate my life, the greater the possibility that old demon fear will sneak into my mind. So I must always remember to keep it simple, let go, and stay in today.
My life has been transformed. Twenty-six years ago today, I stumbled into the YANA Club ("You Are Not Alone") in Sarasota, Florida. Louise S. was there that afternoon, and greeted me with a welcoming hug and a steaming cup of coffee. An old-timer, she had gotten sober years before in New York, and had known Bill W. She carried a simple message. The unconditional love she offered was impossible to resist. I wanted what she had right then and there. She loved me. She knew what I was feeling. She listened and shared her own experience, strength and hope with me. I knew I was home. I stuck to her like glue, and she eventually guided me through the Steps and Traditions.
The Steps have worked me. Not the other way around. By sitting and listening, the spirituality of our program has entered my heart without my even noticing it. Practicing the principles in all my affairs helps me to stay sober today. Joyfully trudging the Road of Happy Destiny hand-in-hand with you and relying upon the Spirit of the Universe to guide us, I am yours in fellowship. Thank you for my sobriety!
