Honesty

We found the Great Reality deep down within us.
In the last analysis it is only there that He may be found.
It was so with us.

We can only clear the ground a bit.
If our testimony helps sweep away prejudice,
enables you to think honestly,
encourages you to search diligently within yourself,
then, if you wish,
you can join us on the Broad Highway.
With this attitude you cannot fail.
The consciousness of your belief is sure to come to you.

My name is Kate, and I'm an alcoholic.

I was in a meeting yesterday, and the topic of honesty was brought up. I know how much that topic sends shivers down my spine, even after a few 24 hours. However, that means it is doing what it is supposed to. So, while I was listening, the statement from the Big Book (p. 103) came to mind about how the bottles were just a symbol of a deeper underlying problem. The honesty that was afforded to me to be able to put down the alcohol was but a mere beginning. The spiritual solution was and still is there for me, if I have the capacity to be honest on a daily basis. I had to reach that point of no return, that bankrupt place, to accept the solution, which is spiritual. I thank God every day that I had that moment of clarity. That moment of surrender. That is what opened the channel for the solution, the spiritual tool kit that Alcoholics Anonymous laid at my feet, and so lovingly and gently taught me how to use. This solution saved my life. God is awesome. Thank you, God, and AA.
