Willpower

It is when we try to make our will conform with God's
that we begin to use it rightly.
To all of us,
this was a most wonderful revelation.
Our whole problem had been the misuse of willpower.
We had tried to bombard our problems with it
instead of attempting to bring it into God's intention for us.
To make this increasingly possible
is the purpose of AA's Twelve Steps,
and Step Three opens the door.

Hello! My name is John and I am an alcoholic.

It became evident to me from my last set of difficulties that either I or God is in charge. There is no sharing of power. It cannot be a program where I pick and choose what I ask God about, and what I just decide to do. If I am in charge, I will be forcing solutions, irritable, discontent, and vulnerable to my addictions. I will have all kinds of excuses why I am running the show. But what I have learned recently is that the payoff from having God guide my life is that I have serenity. That is priceless. And I can become happy, joyous and free. It just doesn't happen spontaneously, and sometimes I have to struggle with my problems for quite a while before I realize that letting go, praying for the people, places or things will give me serenity. The problems that I face are never between you and me, they are always between me and God and as soon as I back off and let God work, my life is much more fun. Thanks for being here for me.
