Belief

Here are thousands of men and women, worldly indeed. They flatly declare that since they have come to believe in a Power greater than themselves, to take a certain attitude toward that Power, and to do certain simple things, there has been a revolutionary change in their way of living and thinking. In the face of collapse and despair, in the face of the total failure of their human resources, they found that a new power, peace, happiness, and sense of direction flowed into them.

Newcomers are the lifeblood of the program.
But our old-timers are the arteries.

My name is Madeline and I am an alcoholic.

I have been sober 116 days by God's grace and mercy! I grew up with an alcoholic mother and a "rage-holic" father. My father was a great surgeon and we had more than ample material things. Yet I always felt like something was "missing." It was a loneliness and "hole in my soul" that I could never fill with alcohol or any other addictions. Little by little now, I am learning to fill the "hole" with God who is the only real Father who provides. This wonderful fellowship of AA is teaching me to have faith in Him and in people for the first time in my life. I trust this spiritual and God-given program. The Steps and suggestions my sponsor and other AA members (with long-term sobriety) give to me are helping immeasurably. I am afraid not to follow their instructions because "my way" has not worked for a long time. Thanks for being there for me!
- Madeline
