Spiritual Malady

Being convinced that self, manifested in various ways,
was what had defeated us,
we considered its common manifestations.

Resentment is the "number one" offender.
It destroys more alcoholics than anything else.
From it stem all forms of spiritual disease,
for we have been not only mentally and physically ill,
we have been spiritually sick.
When the spiritual malady is overcome,
we straighten out mentally and physically.

Thought to Ponder....

We are sure God wants us to be
happy, joyous, and free.

I'm Chuck, an alcoholic.

Spiritually, I wasn't sick when I came to AA ... I didn't have any spirituality at all in these bones! Physically, after ninety days and no craving, I'm healthy as a horse, just a tad underweight, alcoholism has left me with a fatty liver and has probably taken some years off my life. Mentally, I didn't believe there could be much wrong with a man who could manage a business' million-dollar budget. Insanity? No way! I finally started admitting that some of the things I did while drinking weren't normal, and it has snowballed ever since. Emotionally immature and unstable, I'm still handling emotional relationships like an eighteen-year-old. Overly sensitive, too. I came to AA with a big mouth and a chip on my shoulder. I'm now firmly convinced I was as nutty as a fruitcake when I came in. God has taken care of the spirituality. Born-again alcoholic and Christian I am now, the Steps are but a beginning to my relationship with God, and I seek His everlasting life. You may not want what I have, but I'm unbelievably happy, sober, content, and at peace with most of the world. No one is hunting me, and I don't have to hide or fear anyone ever again. AA gave me this. It's there for the taking and it's free...just pass it on. Thanks.

- Chuck
