Daily Reprieve

We are not cured of alcoholism.
What we really have is a daily reprieve
contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.
Every day is a day when we must
carry the vision of God's will into all of our activities.
"How can I best serve Thee, Thy will (not mine) be done."
These are thoughts which must go with us constantly.
We can exercise our will power along this line all we wish.
It is the proper use of the will.

Thought to Ponder....

Every day is a gift.
That is why we call it the present.

I'm Jay, an alcoholic.

I woke up this morning and saw the sun was out, it was warm and I didn't have a hangover. That is different from some fourteen years ago. I wouldn't even have known it was the weekend. It would have been just another day with a "y" in it. At age 48, I have returned to college to finish my formal education. It is very different to find myself going to class every day, doing the homework everyday, turning it in on time, every time, and being the guy who messes up the grading curve for students like I used to be. Yes, life is different. I have two sponsees who appear to want to hear what I have to say. I get asked to speak at meetings. I get asked to be in service. I get to be dependable. I get to show up when and where I am asked. I even get asked to go to coffee after a meeting. I recently got to get married. Boy, are sober marriages different! I know I have been given a gift. I know who made the gift possible. I am grateful (boy, is that different). And it all started by putting the plug in the jug and asking for help (boy, was that different). What a difference a day at a time makes.
