Reaching Out

Taking advantage of technological advances,
for example, AA members with computers
can participate in meetings online,
sharing with fellow alcoholics across the country
or around the world.
Fundamentally, though, the difference between
an electronic meeting and the home group
around the corner is only one of format.
In any meeting, anywhere, AA's share
experience, strength, and hope with each other,
in order to stay sober and help other alcoholics.
Modem-to modem or face-to-face,
AA's speak the language of the heart
in all its power and simplicity.

I'm Cheryl, an alcoholic.

I began using email and online meetings when I moved abroad for a year and couldn't get to as many meetings as I would in the States. As a result, I have sober friends around the world. I find myself in a position that I am not as able to get to meetings as often as I need to again. Well, I am staying sober again through some of the most difficult tests of my sobriety. I've found I have breast cancer and at one point thought my choices were drinking or jumping off the bridge. My sober friends have gathered together and held me together long enough that neither is an option. I have been sober over eleven years, and they told me it is my turn to take some of the love I have given out. I will stay sober today. Thanks to all who are able to reach out to another when there seems to be no hope left and give them just enough to stay sober and live another day.
- Cheryl S.
